My daughter is not an attention seeker by any stretch of the imagination so the following analogy struck a chord with her. I said:
Imagine standing up in assembly in front of the whole school and saying or doing the thing you are about to post on Facebook, before you press ‘enter’.
She agreed this was a great acid test and would certainly help her decide if she wanted to be associated with her own and others’ comments and photos. We need to remember that part of the charm of young adults is that in their quest for growth and new experiences, they will only follow the possible consequences of an action so far (if at all) so it is our responsibility to give them the tools to do that.
